Interview with Xiao Yongjun, General Manager of Henan ShiLi Diamond Products Co., Ltd!

Xiao: We all say that (diamond) is an industrial tooth. Without this precision, it cannot meet customer requirements. Planes cannot fly into the sky, missiles cannot land on the ground.

He devoted his entire life to pursuing precision, repeatedly polishing and experimenting between 1/1000 millimeter.

Xiao: Studying this thing mainly involves studying some high-end standards. The difference between qualified and unqualified is one micrometer (one thousandth of a millimeter).

Xiao Yongjun has been engaged in the research, development, and production of diamond tool products for more than 30 years. He has led the research and development of multiple products that have reached the international advanced level. His company's leading diamond dressing roller research and development production capacity ranks among the top five in China. Especially in the field of aerospace blades, it has become an important key component supplier for China's heavy combustion blade rollers in the 14th Five Year Plan, providing reliable product guarantees for high-precision machining processes in the industry and effectively filling the gaps in the industry chain.

Xiao: You may not know much about it, just like a button that uses diamond products. If the button needs brightness, it needs a diamond knife to drive it out. We (wear glasses) are very shiny, it needs diamonds to grind it out. The simplest car requires diamond machining for all its components, so it is widely used. A core bottleneck project of the country is actually fully reflected in the diamond industry. Some things like aerospace that you may not be able to do, just can't do.

Xiao Yongjun's research and development journey originated from a sales event over 30 years ago. He saw a product from abroad that was far superior to our technology. To create the same product, he began to calm down and tackle the challenges. From then on, the magic of innovation opened Pandora's box. Xiao Yongjun worked at the desk, adjusting dimensions and polishing precision between inches, time passing by in the collision of steel.

Xiao: It took a lot of effort to overcome a critical process time. Look, some of our employees are on site for 48 hours when they have time.

As a provincial-level engineering technology research center, the work status of Xiao Yongjun and his team is either in research and development or on the road of research and development. Their attitude of being skilled in craftsmanship grinds down their sincere craftsmanship, turning plain and unadorned steel into a powerful tool for a great nation.

Xiao: Developing that cutting tool on the aircraft carrier was the hardest three months, spent every night in the company, almost every night. Either in the company or on the way to the customer, after turning it into a patent, in fact, this has some basic data for the development of all our products in the later stage. I think this is very good.

In order to make our industrial teeth sharper, Xiao Yongjun leads his team to regularly study and understand advanced technologies abroad, and continuously overcome technological bottlenecks. In recent years, he has led the research and development of 17 utility model patents and 1 invention patent between 2021 and 2023. All of these patent achievements have been transformed into products and services, forming a mass production line with an annual output of 3000 pairs of diamond surface forming units and a production line with an annual output of 6000 pairs of imported diamond precision finishing tools for gear grinding machines. The annual output value is 30 million yuan, with a profit and tax of 2.6 million yuan. Especially in the field of national strategic emerging industry demand, key products with independent intellectual property rights have been developed and replaced by imports.
